Kevin Alons, an Iowa native, military pilot, and business owner, announced today that he is running for the Iowa Senate in District 7. The district includes most of Woodbury, all of Monona, and much of Cherokee and Plymouth counties.

A long-time Salix resident, software development consultant, and traditional Air National Guard Colonel, Alons follows in the footsteps of his late father, Brig. General Dwayne Alons, who served in the Iowa National Guard and represented Sioux County in the Iowa House from 1999 to 2014.

From his childhood on a farm near Boyden, Kevin Alons has deep ties to northwest Iowa. His roots in the region include earning a degree from Northwestern College, over 27 years of military service, working as a software developer, architect, and consultant for his company Alons Software, and various church leadership roles at Morningside Assembly in Sioux City. His political involvement includes two terms as chair of the Woodbury County Republican Party, and one term as treasurer. Active in the community, Alons has served in many volunteer roles, including coaching, mentoring, and volunteering.

In announcing his run, Alons said, “I am blessed to live in Iowa, and am thankful for the positive direction our state has been heading under principled, conservative leadership. We must finish the Life Amendment process, continue to reduce the tax burden on Iowans, and ensure our education system partners with parents and focuses on student academic success.”

“As Washington is increasingly out of control,” he continued, “I pledge to fight for limited and responsible state government. Iowa can and should be a leader among the states as we retake the critical role as a check on the growth and influence of the federal government. As our state motto aptly proclaims, ‘Our liberties we prize, our rights we will maintain.’”

Kevin has been married to his wife Ngu for 30 years, they have three successful adult children and a wonderful son-in-law. They were recently blessed with the birth of a grandson.
